In early March, fifth and sixth grade student council representatives from Babylon Memorial Grade School visited Babylon Elementary School to share their love of reading with their younger friends. This activity was part of the New York State PTA’s Pick a Reading Partner month, which encouraged children to read with a partner for at least 20 minutes per day. Accompanied by student council advisers Amy Malone and Nicole Cupo, the grade school students read the book “Scaredy Squirrel Goes Camping” to the elementary schoolers, in keeping with PARP month 2020’s camping theme. The grade school’s PTA generously donated one copy of this book for each elementary school classroom, which the visitors hand delivered. The visitors also designed camping-themed bookmarks for each K-2 student to color and use throughout this monthlong reading celebration and beyond.
