The comprehensive research projects completed by Babylon High School juniors Jack Corcoran, Ryan Cosgro and Mike Logan were showcased during this year’s New York State Science and Engineering Fair.

This was the students’ first time competing at the state-level Intel-affiliated competition, where participants come from across the New York. The students presented their independent research projects to professional scientists from academics and industrial fields.

The students’ projects covered a variety of topics. Jack’s project observed how chemical pollutants impact members of local ecosystems, while Ryan worked to extract a potential biofuel from green algae. Mike studied how biological compounds may work to combat antibiotic resistance.
