Keeping Current on Events

Babylon Memorial Grade School’s fifth- and sixth-grade national current events teams competed and dominated on the national stage as they took part in this year’s National Current Events Olympiad.

The fifth-grade team finished first in the nation, and the sixth-grade team finished third in the nation. Additionally, two members of the fifth-grade team received individual accolades. Derek Huluhan finished first, and Kevin Mroczka finished second overall nationally.

The National Current Events Olympiad consists of four meets of 30 challenging questions with schools across the nation throughout the year. The categories spanned news and international affairs, arts and entertainment, science and health, business and finance and sports.
