Dear Families, Faculty/Staff and Residents:

I wish to extend my sincere appreciation for the warm welcome during my initial transition into Babylon as your new superintendent of schools. I am extremely honored to serve as your superintendent and I thank you all for giving me the ability to lead and work beside you.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself and my family. Aside from being an educator, I am a wife and a mother. My husband and I have two children.  Our son, Connor, is entering the ninth grade at Southampton High School in September and our daughter Brynne will be entering her final middle school year as an eighth-grade student at Tuckahoe School, also in Southampton. Professionally, this July marks my 11th year as a superintendent of schools in Suffolk County. July also signifies moving forward together as we embark on writing another beautiful chapter in the rich history of our district, with an eye toward building on our successes and traditions of the past.

I truly believe that successful outcomes are accomplished when there is determined leadership working in partnership with members of a team. During my initial conversations with many educational stakeholders, I was struck by the pride and talents that abound in our schools, as well as within the greater Babylon community. I see bright teachers, support staff, building leaders and non-instructional staff who work hard to meet the needs of our students and parents every day.  I see central office leaders working collaboratively and taking a team approach to achieving excellence. I see a Board of Education supporting the work of our students and school system while holding the district accountable to the community’s needs. I see a greater community that understands the value and purpose of meaningful school/community partnerships. Exploring the landscape, I ultimately see that we are all representatives of an exceptional team that believes in our public schools.

The best organizations have a clear vision with a determined set of priorities that will drive successful outcomes. This summer, I’ll be working with the Board of Education and the leadership team on establishing such priorities and coordinating goals. Put simply, we’ll define who we are, where we are at the current moment, where we desire to go and how to get there. They already know what winning looks like, and this important work continues the conversation, moving us in a forward direction. Such conversations cultivate a sense of professional pride and optimism.

To that end, I wrote and am working my way through my own “Superintendent’s Entry Plan,” which represents a roadmap of my first 100 days. I wish to post this to my new website shortly!

In the meantime, this summer allows me to continue getting to know the truly terrific people of our school district and community and the gifts they bring to our students. It also allows me time to work through typical summer initiatives, such as disseminating the results to the public of a recent transportation study that the Board of Education embraced, overseeing field and facility upgrades, and helping the leadership team prepare well for a beautiful opening of our schools on Wednesday, September 2.

I hope each one of you will become informed about the educational program as well as the goals of the district. Attend meetings, ask questions and offer positive input. I know you will come to appreciate the exceptional efforts of the administrators, teachers and staff members and the great commitment of your Board of Education trustees.

During the summer, please also continue to check the district website to remain updated on important items. Even though it is summertime, important information continues to be posted for your convenience (e.g., registration information on the Regional Summer School sponsored by Western Suffolk BOCES as well as August Regents administration schedules). You will also be hearing from us in an upcoming newsletter, as well as through additional correspondence in August. Please also feel free to email me at lrozzi@babylonufsd.org. I welcome your suggestions as to how the district can be the best it can be.

Our students bring us great joy and happiness. It is with them in mind that I urge you to continue being partners in their education. I wish you all a very restful and enjoyable summer vacation.

Yours in education,
Mrs. Linda J. Rozzi
Superintendent of Schools
