District students and staff members were all smiles as they arrived at their respective schools and commenced the 2015-16 school year on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

The day was filled with an array of emotions and excitement, as it symbolized a milestone for many scholars. For the incoming kindergarten class the day marked the start of their educational journey while for the district’s seniors it represented their last “first day” and their first step toward graduation.

“The first day of school is always an exciting time in our buildings,” said Superintendent of Schools Linda J. Rozzi. “We wish all of our students in the Babylon School District a happy first day and a successful new school year.”

As part of the district’s commitment to providing students with a robust educational program, a number of new initiatives will begin this year. These include a new STEAM course at Babylon Junior/Senior High School (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics), increased interscholastic offerings at the junior high level, and the formation of a Debate Club and a Lego Robotics Club at both Babylon Elementary School and Babylon Grade School.  All opportunities enable students to build important interdisciplinary skills. Additionally, the district has a continued partnership with Columbia University’s Teachers College Reading and Writing Project in our K-6 grades.

The students’ adaptation to being back in school was flawless, making for a successful start of school and a promising year ahead!
