For the eighth consecutive year, Babylon Elementary School participated in International Walk to School Day. Joining their peers from around the world, BES staff, parents and students took part in the movement on Oct. 7 that showed their commitment to a healthy lifestyle and protecting the environment.

With walking-themed music playing over the school’s outdoor speakers, the participants arrived on foot, by bicycle, by scooter and even by wagon. Students showed off their paper sneakers, colored and decorated as part of the day’s program. The colorful sneakers will be displayed in the building as a reminder to stay active.

The international event features communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 and has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and active, healthy lifestyles.
