Fire safety and prevention lessons took place at the elementary and grade schools during Fire Prevention Week, observed Oct. 4-10, with classroom visits and informative assemblies led by members of the local fire department.

At the elementary school, Babylon Fire Department volunteers stressed the importance of having working fire alarms in every bedroom and explained to students what to do if the fire alarm ever goes off in their house. They also spoke about the importance of having fire drills at home, just like at school. After the presentations, the students went outdoors to see a working fire truck and watch an interactive puppet show.

During an assembly at the grade school, members of the fire department introduced students to the many tools they use and gave them the opportunity to see and feel a fire uniform. Outside the school, the students viewed fire trucks and other vehicles as the fire chief discussed each one of them.
