A Launch Pad of Learning

Seventh-graders tested their water rocket creations as the culmination to their STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) project, launching them in the field of the grade school on Oct. 30.

The Babylon Space Academy Project brings together many cross-curricular lessons, beyond constructing a rocket. Students are given a fictional $1 million budget to design, engineer and launch their water rockets.

Working as a team, students had to budget their money to purchase parts for their rockets and then write out checks for each purchase. They worked on the design and engineering portion of the project with the goal of creating a rocket that will launch straight up in the air under pressure.
