Cardboard shoes, Dorito dresses and paper towel roll hairclips are just some of the few designs that made it to the runway at the Memorial Grade School Trash to Fashion Show on May 5.

Sixth-graders have been spending the last few weeks conceptualizing, designing and fabricating clothing out of discarded items found in the garbage can. They used these recycled treasures to create one-of-a-kind fashions for the runway.

Grade School librarian Lisa Lindeman, art teacher Pat Stork and special education teacher Pat Hauk have been working with the students in the art room during their lunch and recess periods. The sixth-graders and their recycled fashions participated in the Students of Long Island Maker Expo at Bay Shore Middle School on May 7.
