Fifth- and sixth-grade students at Memorial Grade School had the opportunity to hone their communication, technology and editing skills this school year by taking part in the Broadcast Club.

The new club launched in November and more than two dozen students participated in the year’s first broadcasts. The two grades worked separately, with sixth grade working on broadcasts through March followed by fifth-grade broadcasts running through the end of the year.

Headed by adviser and technology teacher Danielle Weiss, the club members were tasked with conceptualizing their segments, researching their topics, conducting interviews, working the camera, laying pictures on a green screen and editing footage. BBC broadcasts included segments like school news, teacher words of wisdom, movie reviews, weather and sports.

Broadcast Club segments can be found on the district’s Vimeo channel.
