Sixth-graders at Memorial Grade School tested their environmental ingenuity as they designed, engineered and raced their own solar-powered cars on June 17.

During their environmental engineering enrichment course, the students learned about the environment and the impact of pollution. They explored alternate forms of clean energy. After discussing how photovoltaic cells work and their current uses in real-world technology, students designed, engineered and constructed a solar energy race car as a culminating activity. Race day activities were postponed due to some cloud coverage but the sixth-graders were still impressed with their engineering skills.
