Musicians Hit the Right Notes

Babylon Junior-Senior High School is home to six seniors who have earned high honors in music and have been chosen to perform with state and county ensembles.

The New York State School Music Association has selected Emma Schubart and Scott Sgueglia for the All-State Orchestra, and Lindsey Daily for the All-State Women’s Chorus. They will perform with their respective ensembles at the 2016 NYSSMA Winter Conference in Rochester, New York, Dec. 1-4. In addition, Matthew Fama, Olivia Lulley and Maxwell O’Handley have been selected by the Suffolk County Music Educators Association to perform with the All-County Mixed Chorus in the SCMEA All-County Festival on Nov. 18 at Northport High School. Emma, Scott and Lindsey will also be performing at the All-County Festival. Emma and Scott will take part in the symphony orchestra and Lindsey will sing with the women’s chorus.

The six seniors attained these honors based on their exceptional performances at NYSSMA solo and ensemble evaluation festivals last spring, along with teacher recommendations.

“Both I and the district are very proud of all that these students have accomplished,” said Director of Fine Arts Angela Turk. “They have been working very hard toward their goals, and it definitely shows in their musical capabilities and work ethic.”
