Exploring Local Ecosystems

Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s STEAM 9 students recently joined approximately 250 students from other local schools to study the Carlls River ecosystem.

With the help of teacher Mary Schappert and scientists from both the Seatuck Environmental Association and the Central Pine Barrens Joint Planning and Policy Commission, students worked to collect water samples, analyze their composition and conduct biodiversity inventories in the water.

The experience allowed students to work with scientists in the field and gain further knowledge regarding local water systems.
