Lesson From Man’s Best Friend

Babylon Elementary School students were recently treated to a special assembly in which Suffolk County Police Department Commissioner and Babylon parent, Timothy Sini, and members from the SCPD K-9 Unit visited the school to teach students about the importance of working dogs on the police force.

Mr. Sini spoke to the students about how to properly handle an emergency situation, and who to reach out to in case of said emergency. Officers Ken Michaels and Charles Tramontana of the SCPD K-9 unit were also on hand to tell the students what role the dogs serve on the force and provide background information on the canines, including how they are raised to obey commands in the German language.

The presentation concluded with the officers and visiting police dog, Dallas 5, demonstrating some of the commands and a question and answer session.
