Babylon H.S. Students Celebrate Youth Art Month

March is Youth Art Month, and Babylon students celebrated it by participating in an art installation project led by Babylon High School art teacher Cheryl Schweider.
"On March 12, the Studio 5 and AP Studio art classes participated in a one-day installation project," Schweider said of her student's activities. "The students had been studying the work of Christo, an environmental installation artist. They had just completed projects based on his wrapping style. As part of the critique, the students wrapped a corner of their art room, as well as one of the students, with aluminum foil."
Schweider added that the students had a much better understanding of Christo's work after participating in the project. "The art room remained wrapped for one week," she noted. "Upon taking down the installation, the students were challenged to create a piece of artwork using the foil. Any leftover foil will be recycled, as Christo does with all the materials used in his installations."
