Babylon Junior-Senior High School conducted the annual school level Scripps Spelling Bee this January, inviting both seventh- and eighth-grade students to display their vast literary knowledge.

Seventh-grader Matthew Nyman won the competition by correctly spelling the champion word "endeavor” in the final round. The runner-up in this year’s contest was eighth-grade student Astrid Ramirez.

As the school winner, Matthew has qualified to compete in the next round of the competition, which will be held at Hofstra University on Feb. 4.

The district wishes him well in the future of the competition.
