The work to update several instructional spaces at Babylon Junior-Senior High School, including the home and careers classrooms, art room, little theater and biology classrooms, has been completed. The school also has installed two new water bottle filling stations for student and staff use. The district anticipates that the Rowe Hall project will be completed in early October, after the new display cases and wall heater are installed. Additionally, the entrance vestibule at Babylon Elementary School has been redesigned to maximize student safety.


‘Renewal’ Begins Phase III

Babylon School District broke ground on the third phase of the approved “Renewal” bond project this summer.

Projects scheduled for this phase encompass: renovations to Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s Little Theatre, Rowe Hall and the Rowe Hall Lobby, art rooms, the dark room and the school’s home and careers classrooms. Phase III also includes renovations to the building’s biology classrooms, which will be updated to include new student lab tables, sinks, smartboards and projectors. In addition, Babylon Elementary School’s main entrance vestibule will be modified to enhance building security.

The district anticipates that these projects will be completed by the early fall/beginning of the school year.

Phase II of Bond Work: An Update

Progress continues to be made as contractors roll out Phase II of Babylon’s bond initiative, after completing Phase I this past winter.

Construction has begun on the installation of the turf fields, and demolition to the parking lot surrounding the athletic fields is underway. The lot will receive fresh pavement and new lines in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the new roof at the Junior-Senior High School is moving along on schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of November. All other Phase II projects are currently on schedule as well.

Phase II of Bond Work Underway

During the summer weeks, contractors have been hard at work rolling out Phase II of Babylon’s bond initiative, after completing Phase I this past winter.
   
Most notably, construction has begun on the installation of the turf fields across from the Junior/Senior High School. Additionally, the building is in the process of undergoing a roof replacement.
   
At the grade school and elementary school, students will soon be swinging from brand-new monkey bars, as workers are replacing the old playgrounds with up-to-date equipment. Both schools are also obtaining new security vestibules to welcome visitors and ensure student safety.
   
Finally, workers are installing new backup electrical generators at all three buildings. Browse the photos to see some of the progress being made as a result of our bond referendum.



Bond Update - July 14, 2015

During their June 13 meeting, the Board of Education awarded several contracts in relation to the previously approved “Renewal” bond project. These contracts included:

  • The roof reconstruction and masonry repair at Babylon Junior-Senior High School. This work is scheduled to begin on 7/20/15.
  • The entry vestibule redesign at the Babylon Elementary School and Babylon Memorial Grade School. This work is scheduled to begin in late July.
  • The installation of the new playground at Babylon Memorial Grade School and the resurfacing of the area beneath the playground at Babylon Elementary School. This work is scheduled to be completed over the summer.

The work on the athletic field at Babylon Junior-Senior High School began on July 14th.

Bond Update - June 10, 2015

The second phase (summer) of bond project is moving forward as planned. Construction is expected to begin in early July. The work scheduled to be completed by building is as follows:

Elementary School - Vestibule reconstruction, PA/Intercom system upgrade, installation of generator and playground resurfacing.

Grade School - Vestibule reconstruction, PA/Intercom system upgrade, installation of generator and installation of new playground.

Jr./Sr. High School - Installation of athletic turf fields, parking lot, field lighting, resurfacing of track, PA/Intercom system upgrade, installation of generator.

Bond Update - September 24, 2014

The first phase of the community-approved bond is moving along, with the final trim work on the elementary school roof to be completed by Sept. 26. Continuing with the elementary roof, it is anticipated that the new gutter system will arrive on Oct. 4 and will be installed after school hours and on weekends.
Moving forward with the next phase of the bond, we are currently in the design and development of construction documents for the following projects:

Elementary School – building security; fire alarm system replacement; generator; playground surfacing

Grade School – building security; fire alarm system replacement; generator; new playground

Jr/Sr High School – building security; fire alarm system; generator; roof reconstruction; kitchen and serving line interior renovations; home and career interior renovations; art studio interior renovations; Rowe Hall and auditorium interior renovations; new synthetic turf athletic fields and running track

All of these projects are scheduled for construction in the spring of 2015 and are expected to continue through the summer of 2015 into the fall of 2015.
 


Bond Update - August 22, 2014

After working on the elementary school roof over the past few months, workers have fully completed the project with the exception of the metal trim, gutters and leaders. The work will continue in the coming week and, if necessary, be completed after hours and/or on weekends. Additionally, the chimney re-pointing, brick work and thru-wall flashing will be completed by August 26.

ES Roof Reconstruction – August 6, 2014 Update

Workers spent the summer months reconstructing the elementary school roof, which is currently at 85 percent completion. It is anticipated that all major work to the roof will be completed prior to the start of school with only minor trim work remaining. Any trim work remaining will take place after school hours. The mechanical contractor has ordered all equipment and replacement of the elementary exhaust fan is expected to take place within the next few days. It is expected this project will be completed before the start of school.

Work Begins – July 2014 Update

The district will break ground on the first phase of projects included in the community-approved bond this summer. Work scheduled consists of the elementary roof reconstruction, masonry repair and exhaust fan replacement. Additionally, the grade school playground is scheduled to be relocated. The work is expected to commence the second week of July. Residents are encouraged to visit the this webpage to keep informed of the progress made in the coming weeks. The buildings and grounds committee will continue to meet this summer with the district’s architects and construction management team to oversee the development and design of other aspects of the project, as well as finalize a schedule for items to be completed during the school year. Details will be shared via the district website.
