High Schoolers Recognized for Giving Back to their Younger Peers

BABYLON, NEW YORK (February 2024)—The Babylon Board of Education recently honored members of the Babylon Junior-Senior High School Peer Leader organization for the valuable work they do at the school.

Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s Peer Leaders form an important component of the school’s support network, which fosters an environment where students feel comfortable and can thrive. Being a Peer Leader also gives participating students the opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills andgive back to their school community.

Among the many initiatives Babylon’s Peer Leaders have spearheaded include the P.R.O.U.D. Panther Initiative, which aims to foster an environment of positive and responsible behavior among students; Social-Emotional Learning Day, which is a schoolwide activity that encourages resilience, well-rounded lifestyle building, team building and cultural awareness; peer mediations, which allow students to manage conflicts between their younger peers to generate positive outcomes; and the creation of a mindfulness room, which is in the early stages of development and seeks to create a space for students to destress. These are just a handful of the ways Babylon’s Peer Leaders have made Babylon Junior-Senior High School a robust and supportive place for learning.

“The initiative and maturity our Peer Leaders show never ceases to amaze,” said Superintendent of Schools Carisa Manza. “They form a valuable component of our Babylon High School community; our student body and the wider Babylon community is lucky to have them.”
