CARES Assembly Continues Schoolwide Social-Emotional Learning Initiative

BABYLON, NEW YORK (February 2023)—Babylon Memorial Grade School recently held its third CARES assembly for the year. The core theme for this year’s assembly was accountability.

Through a series of interactive presentations, students learned what it means to be accountable for one’s actions and how accountability should form one of their core values. Additionally, students were introduced to the school’s Accountable Alley, which is located in the main hallway. When students demonstrate positive actions, their names are recorded on a bowling ball on display in the hallway next to a corresponding pin—this stands to demonstrate the cause and effect of their actions. Students were encouraged to take part in an accountability-themed poster contest and to complete an accountability calendar, which pushes students to think about their actions and what effects they might have.

Finally, the assembly saw the tallying of votes for the Name the BMGS Panther Contest, which sought to come up with a name for the school’s panther mascot. The winning name was Pablo the Panther! The BMGS CARES Initiative is being spearheaded by the school’s social-emotional learning committee.
