Babylon Elementary School kindergarteners from Mrs. Ryczek, Ms. Geller, Mrs. Bell, and Mrs. Marinell's classes recently took an educational field trip to the outdoor learning lab at Sunken Meadow State Park. Students experienced a hands-on lesson about various aquatic flora and fauna as well as their habitats.
As students toured the beach, guides pointed out different aspects of the park, including where animals make their homes, lay their eggs and live off of the land to survive. Back in their classrooms, the students created their own animal shelters and tested them against different forms of severe weather, such as wind, rain and extreme heat.
The lessons served as a valuable introduction to beach habitats, and the important roles they play in the world’s ecosystem.
