Emma Nopanen, a seventh grade student at Babylon Junior-Senior High School, has been named the winner of the Suffolk County Water Authority’s (SCWA) countywide art competition for grades 6–8. Her winning artwork, a vibrant depiction of the Babylon Pool, creatively captured the role of water in community life.
Selected from over 250 submissions, Emma’s piece will be displayed at various public locations across Suffolk County, promoting awareness of water conservation and artistic excellence. The competition aims to engage students in reflecting on the importance of water in daily activities while showcasing young artistic talent.
“Congratulations to Emma on this fantastic achievement,” said Principal Al Cirone. “Her work not only displayed a great deal of talent, but also captured a wonderful local slice of life here in Babylon.”
The SCWA’s annual competition encourages students to explore environmental themes through art. Emma’s success highlights Babylon’s commitment to fostering both artistic creativity and civic awareness among its students.
